LOCAL NEWS

CARBON COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN, LUNCHEON

Carbon County Republican Women (www.mail.fastermac.net/blogs/CCRW) met for lunch at Fort Rockvale Restaurant on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. President Manweiler opened the meeting with Prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and an Inspirational reading.

She then introduced special guest, Dave Howard, candidate for Montana House of Representatives, HD60, and his wife, Carla.

Dave and Carla Howard are the parents of six daughters, four of which live in Montana.

Dave’s Montana history began when his grandmother was a cook on a ranch north of Livingston from the 1930s to the 50s.

Dave is a Viet Nam era veteran. He also served as an FBI agent in Billings, Chicago and L.A.

Dave has a B.S. Degree in Criminology and a Masters in Management. His FBI specialty was Political Corruption and he trained police departments in the art of interviewing.

He is now self-employed, helping companies prevent unlawful acts.

Using his experience, Dave put together a multi-media presentation entitled “The Cutlure War.”

Dave is a positive, answers-oriented, conservative candidate, but sees much to be concerned with in the current state of our cutlure and is running for the House of Representatives to keep our Montana freedoms.

Each member of CCRW was given a list of government representatives to call with Culture concerns, whether the concern be drilling for oil in the USA, Life, global warming etc.

As a thank you, President Manweiler gave HD60 candidate Dave Howard a copy of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution. She then opened the business meeting with the treasurer and secretary's reports.

For the Americanism report, Pat Plowman standing for Jo Deane Downing visiting an Air Force son in New Mexico, wished each Father a Happy Father掇 Day, reminding them of their immeasurable value to the family. (http://www.unitedfamilies.org/Fact_Sheet_Fatherhood.cfm) Flag Day is June 14. Our first flag was adopted June 14, 1777. Also, she wished our 41st President George H.W. Bush a happy birthday June 12. In conclusion, she read a letter from a friend and Navy Arabic translator in Iraq, Scott, who is a friend of daughter and Navy Russian translator, Anne Plowman. Scott will be in Iraq about eight months; CCRW will send a Priority box to him next week.

For the Central Committee, Central Committee Treasurer Joann mentioned many upcoming events, including the next meeting at the Lupine Inn in Red Lodge, July 17, 7:30 p.m. All are most welcome.

The Garden Party for Governor Candidate Roy Brown June 13 was sold out.

We wish to remember Centenarian and Patriot Joe Papez, whose Memorial Service was June 14 at the Red Lodge Community Center.

The State Republican Convention is in Missoula June 19-21. A beautiful "Girlfriend" basket was collected from members for a fundraiser at the Convention.

Candidate donations were discussed but final amounts were not decided, however HD60 candidate Dave Howard was given a first donation.

The Central Committee will again have a booth for the 4th of July in Red Lodge and members volunteered for the booth as well as a float in the Joliet parade. Hallands in Bridger will help with a Republican booth for Bridger Days, July 19, beginning 10:30 a.m., with the Central Committee donating made in U.S.A. flags.

The Republican Women are planning a Brown event in Red Lodge in early August with Kelly Resley as Coordinator.

The annual Republican Picnic will again be August 24, 1 p.m., at Kaleva Park between Roberts and Red Lodge. Meat and beverages are provided by the Central Committee, along with an invitation to all to attend.

The 2008 Republican National Convention, September 1-4, will be in the Twin Cities, MN; the Blytons have applied to attend.

As a reminder, CCRW dues are $20 for members and $10 for associates.

The tentative special guest for the July 9 meeting will be Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate Elaine S. Herman (electElaineHerman.org). This is a most important election as the Superintendent is a member of the Land Board, determining the development of Montana energy.(submitted, Pat Plowman, CCRW Secretary, 962-3383)
